The plan was to follow a path around the south east corner of the island but after a mile the path just tapered into the cliff so we headed back to the marina and grabbed a taxi which to the obvious alarm of my crew dropped us off at Pedregal on the north coast overlooking an abandoned farming village.

A steep zig zag walk gained us 500 metres and into the edge of the trees which cap the 'Picos' and then it was a lovely cool walk through fir and eucalyptus and great views to the north and south and we had close ups of kestrels and hoopoe. A walk back to the town in time for a beer and toasted sandwiches which were ordered in 'fluid' Portuguese!
Finally a visit to the beach where the water was sufficiently warm for a relaxing swim.

Friday passed in ' boat jobs' mode and in the evening we headed back to the restaurant 48/3XL  in the good company of John and Laura from 'Rainmaker' where we enjoyed an excellent dinner.
It was fun to be back in Porto Santo after about 23 years and despite all the new building the island has a very peaceful character and way of life.
