Prepared for sea again and discovered the pontoon water supply had ruptured so had to fix that before topping up tanks........you can take the boy out of the marina but................!  Grateful thanks from the marina manager then I pointed out to him that the pile guides were broken on the pile at our pontoon but I did not offer to fix them!
We departed and hoisted sails and cleared the harbour about 10.30; the wind light and dead astern of the desired course.

Approaching Madeira with mountains above the cloud

A bright and sparkling day we broad reached south of the rhumb line  then eventually gybed back and for the last hour had a cracking sail to Quinto do Lorde marina on the NE corner of Madeira.
A nearby anchorage looked inviting but we envisaged a gusty night in the prevailing wind so we entered the marina escorted by 'Carlos' in the marina rib and he showed us to an excellent berth.

Quinto do Lorde is a very imaginative property development with a marina but they do not appear to be selling anything as the place is like a 'ghost-town'. However the place is very smart and built to a high quality and subject to negotiating a realistic rate may stay for a week!

Sunday

A 10km walk to the east.

Monday
Took the nail biting bus trip to Funchal where our regular readers will anticipate we enjoyed a good lunch! A good walk around the town and inspected the marina.......no room for visiting yachts now!

The return bus was even more cheek clenching but we were dropped back at the entrance to the Marina!
