Wednesday morning we had the luxury of not having to clean mud off the anchor chain, dropped the mooring and headed out under the “ Bay Bridge” which has a vertical clearance of 180ft so no worries there!

The weather forecasts were warning of excessively high temperatures of over 100 degrees F and advising people to stay in air conditioned rooms and by early afternoon the cockpit thermostat was reading 51 degrees!!

We entered the Sassafras River on the Eastern Shore and the wooded sloping shores are very pastoral with houses and trees mixed with fields and creeks, again most of the creeks are very shallow and we headed up to Georgetown where there are several marinas but mainly catering for the motorboat market.

Back down the river to an anchorage we contacted Mike Beal whom we had met in The Saintes and who used to keep his Nic32 in Oban!

We enjoyed dinner at his lovely house ( air conditioned ) in a beautiful setting preceded by welcome showers!

The hottest night aboard yet with no wind to assist ventilation and every bug-screen in use!
