Thursday
Woke to heavy rain, thunder and lightening- decided
not to leave right away! Made lists of all the " inside jobs" to be done and
thought about them. The afternoon brightened up considerably but by then we had
decided on another night a/s in Ribadeo!
The afternoon had seen a significant swell setting
into the Ria and while Moonbeam was sitting fairly comfortably on a hammerhead
berth the Marinieros came round and suggested we move to a quieter spot which we
did and spent a quiet night. Dinner was fresh fish from the market followed by
drinks aboard a Swedish yacht.
Friday- what a contrast. Blue skies, sunshine and
no wind! We slipped just before 10.00am and motored out of the Ria. It was good
to see some of the coastline for once but the wind did not materialise so we
motored westwards and eventually got a sail for half an hour when the wind died
and we sailed into fog with only 100m visability. The fog cleared in Ria de
Viveiro which has excellent scenery; in the first section the rocky shores could
be a Scottish loch and then there is a mixture of beaches and forest with
scattered houses.

Up to now the North Spanish scenery had been
interesting but this was very attractive. There are potential anchoring spots
but there is a marina in the centre of the town so we headed for it and after
changing fenders 4 times (!) we were securely moored. We had heard that all the
staff had just been sacked for corruption so one guy was doing it
all!
We were able to tell our new Dutch friends Rene and
Anneka that we saw them on AIS which they said was impossible as they did not
think it was working! Once I had proved it was OK and they understood why they
were wrong Rene said he would kiss me and it was ok because he was a lesbian!
Maybe their English is not quite as good as we thought it was but it is better
than my Dutch!
