Mystic

41.20.630N 071.58.353W We left the Fishers Island harbour anchorage and headed across the sound to the entrance of the Mystic River where we followed the channel markers and meandered our way up river past moored yachts, small marinas and some lovely riverside houses.

View from our “slip” www.mysticshipyard.com We had booked a “slip” ( American for berth ! ) at Mystic Shipyard and their dockman Glenn stepped aboard, niftily lassoed the pilings and we were soon trussed up at the end of “D” Dock. Unfortunately there was nowhere to anchor and the slips are expensive but it was convenient and as we were to discover- quite sociable !
The NY30 “Amorita” was being relaunched following a sinking when we arrived www.ny30.org/amorita_index.htm Have a look at the photos of the accident! We walked into “town” to get our bearings and enjoy the ambience and on Thursday visited Mystic Seaport Museum which is fascinating in its variety of exhibits ranging from old canoes to a Whaling ship and a Grand Banks Schooner.
Schooner “Brilliant” arriving at the Seaport – note the open bridge
Lost in a nautical junk shop!
The Fife “Belle Aventure”
Unfortunately the weather turned to rain and we got pretty wet by the end of the day! We did meet a Uk couple with a Najad whom Lynn had met in La Gomera back in November! |
