Tuesday
The plan was to go to Cork for the day but the club
office could not find the bus timetable and then we missed a bus by 2 minutes
and the next one was not for 21/2 hours so change of plan.Walked through the
village as far as Camden Fort then meandered back and chatted to Billy and Gail
and looked at Crosshaven boatyard which had just sprayed a 60' yacht outside and
just next to the road; the story goes that lots of cars in Crosshaven have
various colours of overspray! The adjacent boatyard drives its hoist down the
road to get to the slipway! Things are different down here! In the afternoon we
did some boat jobs and took the rib up river to Drake's Pool which is a lovely
sheltered anchorage. Lots of yachts and boats on moorings in the river mostly
just attached by bits of string........
Wednesday
Another hard day in store.Waited until low water
then headed for East Ferry Marina to pick up some outboard spares left there by
Kevin from Marine Motors. The somewhat ram shackle marina is beautifully located
in a narrow passage which is wooded to the shore for much of its
length.

Ferry A pint and a bowl of seafood chowder in the
Marlogue Inn . The Inn beckoned for an evening meal and we were both filled up
by the good bar food. A pleasant evening walk then a drink aboard "Moonbeam"
with John who bought "Thika" at Ardfern a few years ago.
Thursday
The morning weather forecast confirmed that there
is an unsettled period due over the weekend so plans for France are postponed. A
quick look north to admire the scenery and to take a look at what John described
as "Ireland's most beautiful house". We haven't seen many as John but he might
well be right!
 Out the harbour, zero wind again and despite the
forecast the only wind was 4 knots on the nose. Saw several basking sharks and
generally admired the scenery. This part of Ireland somehow manages to combine
ruggedness with a pastoral agricultural setting and we find it very
attractive.
Headed into Oyster Haven for a look see and found
it to be a lovely and quiet spot and managed to find room to drop anchor
among the moorings in just enough water to west of Ferry Point. Lay to the tide
as the wind freshened from the south. Anchored at last!
