Having raised the bail money we departed Coinjock in the dark on Sunday morning, carrying out a ‘man-overboard’ practice with a fender that had jumped ship. Weather was much improved and the new crew were tempted into shorts.

Through the Alligator River Bridge and down the canal to a lovely anchorage which we shared  with a dozen other boats.

The waterway was busy with powerboats rushing past and we heard a VHF announcement “ I’ll get out my surf board and ride these puppies”- obviously aimed at a powerboat that had made excessive wake ! We also heard “ did that plane fly under that (64’) bridge ? “- the answer was “ sure did “

75 statute miles travelled.

Monday was again lovely with a shorter trip planned and there was no hurry to get offshore as tropical storm “Sean” was developing. We anchored off Oriental and walked through the tranquil town.

Tuesday we headed for Beaufort and decided to take a “slip”  at the City Docks. The evening meal was a lesson in portion sizes and Wednesday we borrowed the Buick “Woodie” station wagon for Dave to pilot us to West Marine (where Alison emerged resplendent in new deckies) and Walmart.
