A bit of a swell and wash from some fishing boats
but a good night at anchor.
Departed at 08.45 but once again insufficient wind
to sail at any speed! However with main fully out and preventer rigged the
engine was not working hard to maintain 6 knots and gradually the wind
increased--- we find we need 15 knots true down wind in the swell to achieve
acceptable speed- so we had the genoa poled out and we were charging downwind at
over 7 knots with no engine and the helm hardly touched! Gradually the wind went
more easterly and built so we had about 25 knots true and reefs were called for!
8.8 knots was the max speed seen on the log and we reached down to Tejo Estuary
and we anchored off Cascais with 45 miles covered in just over 6 hours! Maybe 20
yachts at anchor just off the marina which is apparently only half full- they
quoted us 54 euros a night- I wonder when they will put 2 and 2
together?
