Hadley Harbour

41.30.723N 070.42.316W After our walk around Newport we left at 1300 hrs and headed East for Buzzards Bay and the Elizabeth Islands. I had been advised to fish using yellow feather lures so I fastened on some mackerel feathers and before long the rod was arcing astern. I don’t know what it was but it was about 10lbs and as I went to gaff it the leader broke and way it went! 5 minutes later and the same again- feather leaders were not designed for bigger fish!
After a very pleasant light air sail we entered the inner harbour of Cuttyhunk but the seabed mud was so “liquid” I was not happy with the anchor grip so we moved to the outer harbour where the anchor held firmly if rather close to a “Bell buoy” !
Cuttyhunk with fog arriving After a peaceful night we sailed gently up the northern shores of the Elizabeth Islands and at lunchtime we entered Hadley Harbour just off Woods Hole.
Entrance to Hadley Harbour Here we found a perfect gem, a completely landlocked “Hidden Harbour”, complete with free moorings!
Lynn tests our new Airchair ! The area is owned by the “Forbes Family” and they aim to keep it pristine and they have some lovely houses, a miniature boatyard, trees, wildlife…….Perfect!
