Tuesday ( this after some debate as I thought it
was Wednesday)
Up early ( Honestly) and departed Gijon at 06.50. A
nice place. The weather was miserable- rain and fog so motor sailed out as far
as Cabo Penas (!) the local Ardnamurchan. Once
round the cape set course for Ribadeo which was a very broad reach with a cross
swell- seriously uncomfortable! Stuck to mizzen and poled out
genoa.
In the afternoon the sun came out and we reached
and moored at Ribadeo just before 19.00 having felt we had been on a 10 hour
aerobic exercise machine. 62.6 miles logged but with the aid of the current over
70 miles made good. Good excuse to test the 2 euro bottle of Rioja which passed
with flying colours!
A couple of British yachts here but as in other
places the Dutch seem to be in the majority. Again it would have been good to
see the coastline but the early fog followed by a general haze conspired against
us. However it was warm and we had seen dolphins and other large
mammals.
There are I am sure folk back home who think our
life is all wine and roses- I can assure you we see very few roses! Dinner
tonight was a lovely avocado and feta salad with walnuts and beetroot from Ian
and Angela's farm and finest beefburgers from Tesco Oban...a meal fit for hungry
sailors!
Wednesday
A day spent in port doing jobs, shopping and
walking.
Bought a ham here for Christmas!
