We are only allowed to stay one night in the marina as the local boat was returning to our space. We motored out and anchored off with the intention of going ashore in the dinghy but the wind blew and we decided to stay on the boat——it blew until 0300.
First thing in the morning we sailed the short trip through a narrow passage into the Ria de Pontevedra. In 2011 and about two miles offshore we made rude comments in the log about this place but having arrived our opinions have changed. It is a big marina mainly for large 'plastic fantastics’ and the marina is extremely well run on their behalf. Visiting boats are lined up alongside the pontoon on the inside of the breakwater wall. A downside is that there are half a dozen club bars and discotheques by the marina. In accordance with Spanish time keeping the discos start at about midnight and switch of at 0530. Each club/disco is playing different music and compete with ever increasing volume! Not good for light sleepers.
The intention was that we would daysail from there with Tom, Nadine, Yannick and Katinka who are staying in an air b&b apartment having driven down from Paris——not to be as we were told that there would be a regatta at the beginning of the week and we could not reserve a space. Typical.
there is a very popular beach!
which starts to get busy at about 5 o’clock.
the optimists are as usual in abundance
Tom and family arrived and were soon digging away
Everyone was keen to see another part of the ria so on Sunday we decided to chance our arm with the marina and go for a short trip and anchor off another beach.
Yannick is 7 tomorrow (Monday)
The ria de Pontevedra is very pretty with Combaro and it’s head. This village is particularly well known for it’s seafood and houses built as granaries———i.e. up on stones not as houses for grannies!
