We left Marina Rubicon yesterday morning, a 7.30am start, the forecast was force 4-5, so we knew we would be sailing. After about an hour of motoring the wind arrived as promised, so did the swell. We sailed down the very boring Eastern coast of Fuerteventura, just mountains, holiday complexes and rocks. We reefed the main and arrived at Puerto del Castillo at 15.30, a tiny marina clinging onto an inhospitable coast. They had room for us for one night as there was a deep sea fishing competition going on, all after the big one! So today we left, sailed down the coast with just the genoa up, the swell was bigger, but as it was a following sea, it was a pleasant sail - it would have been a different matter going the other way. The wind picked up to over 20 knots as we approached this marina as we are in the "wind acceleration zone" round these islands.
This marina is very pleasant, lots of space, but only partially finished, another mothballed development site.
