We left the Yacht Haven Marina at 0700 on Boxing Day to sail the 65 mile passage to Koh Lanta. Henry and Rufus joined us on board while Livie and Kit went by ferry. We had a brisk wind which came round onto the nose to give us a close hauled beat and an increasing sea. We were due to pass between the islands of Phi Phi Don and Phi Phi Lee at about 1300 but as we were falling behind our route timings, which would mean a night arrival to an unknown beach anchorage, and there was some sickness on board we took the decision to divert into Phi Phi Don for an afternoon swim and overnight stay.
We resumed our passage the next morning in ideal beam reach conditions and arrived at Hat Kan Tiang at midday having passed through a mass of fishing flags/nets about 2 miles off the beach. Henry and Rufus have now left the boat for the ''comfort'' of a villa!
This is a lovely beach with a small village and shops behind and a few bars/restaurants in the village and on the beach.
