After a very windy night we left Cork at 0820 on Wednesday morning for the 200 mile passage to Flushing and hopefully “where the butter would melt”.
The wind had veered to the north west and as our course was south east we had it blowing from directly behind but with a rolling sea coming from the west—not the most comfortable!
We sailed for 16 hours until the wind died at midnight and then we turned on the engine. With no sail to steady the boat we rolled a fair bit but as the night wore on the sea flattened. We went round Lands End at about 11 am and it was though someone had switched the heating on. The sea and air temperature rose and Mark was soon stripping off the thermals and donning shorts. Everything seemed so benign and there were other boats out sailing; so different to the North.
We picked up our morning at 1630 and returned home to find that the electricity had tripped out whilst we had been away——the smell and the contents of the fridge/freezer were something else. The final nail in the coffin after a not too successful “cruise”.
