This morning we left the boat at 7am to go to the World Heritage Site of Komodo. After paying to enter, take a camera, a guide and to anchor the boat,(more bureaucracy!) we set off into the scrub landscape along a path towards a waterhole. As we were early, there was noone else around. We saw lots of deer and a wild pig before seeing a dragon at the waterhole, then three more. They are large animals and can move fast, but these looked fairly sleepy thankfully. We continued the walk, the guide showed us Tamarind trees, orchids, coloured snails and a huge spider in its web. We climbed a hill which overlooked the bay, a wonderful view, then came back to the camp where there were three dragons sleeping under the cookhouse! They say they don't feed them, but the dragons like the smell of cooking. After wandering through the marketplace being accosted by the stallholders we returned to the boat.
This afternoon we went to Pink Beach to snorkell, the coral and fish were very colourful and it was good to swim in the sea again. The red coral dust was in the sand, which made it appear pink. This has been one of the best days of the trip.
