After a tour of the island over the last two days we are now thinking of sailing to Tenerife tomorrow. The ARC marina in Las Palmas was large and soulless, although once the bars are full of competitors it may liven up. There did not appear to be much history to the island, lots of development in the valleys with seaside access, imported sand and walls to keep it there. They are circling the island with a dual carriageway with tunnels through the rock, but the western side has not been completed so we drove round cliffs and up mountains, being overtaken by a cement mixer at one stage, ugh! I kept my eyes firmly ahead so all the photos were taken by Mark. We can hear the horns of the buses from our bunk as they round the bends above us! The valleys must be quite fertile as they are all covered with plastic and growing tomatoes, avocados and melons amongst other things.
Last night we went to a local restaurant, La Cappucino, where we had a mixed platter of local fish, red snapper, sardines and some sort of bass, absolutely delicious.
Tomorrow we sail to Tenerife to meet the other boats, probably a close reach or a beat but only a long day sail.
