We are sitting twiddling our thumbs in Marmaris waiting for the ship and Marita to arrive. We have just had an email saying that she has had to reduce speed due to bad weather---strong head winds and rough seas. As Marita is strapped across the bow this is probably a good thing! We have also just received the unloading schedule and Marita will be the last of the seventeen boats to be unloaded!
In the meantime we have traipsed the streets of Marmaris, walked to local villages, had a Turkish Bath and visited the market.
The harbour and bay is lovely and very sheltered-- a place where Nelson readied his fleet for the defeat of Napolean's armada during the Mediterranean campaign. The entrance is narrow
but the the bay wide
The harbour is quiet at this time of year but invaded by the British in the summer
full of harbour side restaurants
and buildings being demolished, with no regard for health and safety, to make way for bigger and better high rises
and three days later
Having not seen really fresh fruit and veg since the market at Port Vila (Vanuatu islands) it was good to see the open air market in Marmaris with strawberries

courgettes, aubergines and green peppers
olives
and fresh fruit
There is a very good cake shop next to the hotel full of temptation from quiches
to cakes and chocolates---the Turkish love sweet things
They are also like their sculpture----these two pieces being on the sea front. The octopus
and the fisherman
The old town is no more except for a few streets around the castle(under repair)
The season apparently starts in May when the planes start arriving mainly from the north of England---we are constantly asked if we are from Manchester or Leeds!
