We have had a lovely two days in Lisbon, taking the local buses and walking to see some of the sights, another good place for a city break. The 1960s monument to Henry the Navigator (who apparently taught navigation and sponsored caravels but didn't go to sea himself!) is wonderful with a big square in front of it with a world map in marble with all the Portugese discoveries and their dates. There is also a maritime museum well worth visiting apparently. We went into the Jeronimos Monastery Church which is all carved in marble, and houses the Tomb of Vasco da Gama who did go to sea.
The marina here is all part of the Expo 98 site, a wonderful area of parks, water features and shops. We did a big supermarket shop and it was all delivered to the boat so we are now about to return to Cascais before the push south to Sines and round Cape St Vincent. The weather has improved, it was very hot yesterday although Marita seems to keep relatively cool.
