We sailed, or rather motor sailed, from Camaret this morning (Monday) up the Chenal du Four and round to L'Aberwrach to wait in the "transit lounge" for the right weather to cross the Channel. There was a bit of a drama when we came to start the engine in Camaret-----there seemed to little battery power despite the battery monitor reading "full strength" and the engine failing to start. We finally managed to get it going and after a few tests of switching it on and off we took the plunge and set off up the Chanel du Four with it's strong tidal current in our favour. The plan was that if the engine would not start we would carry on across the Channel to Falmouth, otherwise into L'Aberwrach to await a more favourable forecast---- so here we are. A close inspection of the fuel filter showed a large amount of muck in the bottom of the inspection glass so we think that dirty fuel may be the problem especially as we had just put 150 litres into the tank at Camaret. We will change the fuel filters tomorrow and see what happens----- an expensive and frustrating problem to sort out if we have to empty the tank (250 litres) and clean/filter it all. Meanwhile it is now raining, the forecast is for Northerly winds for the next two days but the wine is cheap and the food French!! However if we have to spend two days here L'Aberwrach is not the most exciting place to be.
