We started Christmas day in Henry and Livie's hotel
bedroom as Kit's high temeperature continued
but later we graduated to the swimming pool and
children's games area
and then a late lunch
followed by a children's tea party where G&H
planned for next year!
On Boxing Day we sailed to Koh Lanta and arrived
the following day after an overnight refuge at our favourite anchorage at Phi
Phi Don.
George arranged a biker's outing for us (what you
are told you should never do but Harriet with a full motorbike licence assured
us it would be ok!)
and we biked to the other side of the island. Full
moon is celebrated in style here and they were getting ready for the
parties
We went to see the elephants
A recovery drink at the Cliff Top bar overlooking
the bay was a necessity for us, especially Helen who was a virgin
biker.
Henry & co were back in the village and we had
suppers and breakfasts with them
George and Harriet left on 30 December after a fun
two weeks and Henry and Livie the following day. Helen and I then went over
to Koh Lanta old town which is an ancient Chinese trading post, now a tourist
trap but worth the visit despite the rain
We sailed north up the coast of Koh Lanta and then
spent two nights at anchor in a pretty bay called Ko Dam Khan---a lovely
anchorage but disturbed during the day by visitors in speed boats and long tails
of all shapes and sizes
and then to Krabi Boat Lagoon which was so new that
it was not charted so we had help from a marina pilot boat to get us over
the very shallow water and up the river. The entrance into the lagoon was a
cutting in the mangroves
the marina, although not completed, will have good
facilities
we took a taxi into Krabi and visited a Buddist
temple
and the night food stalls on the
streets
