Today we took the tram back to La Laguna, north of Santa Cruz for the English tour of the houses and wide streets in the very old Capital of Tenerife. Surprisingly, it is full of large Medieval houses from the fifteenth century onwards, all with internal courtyards and beautiful Canarian Pine balconies. There are several churches, a couple of monasteries and a convent. After Santa Cruz the whole scale of the town is delightful, with a big market and lots of good shops.
At 600 metres above sea level it is altogether cooler and more sophisticated than Santa Cruz, with some nice places to stay within the town itself.
