We sailed first thing in the morning into the bay at the south end of Rinca hoping to pick up a mooring as shown on the chart but alas they were no longer there and as it was very deep we could not anchor. We left immediately and sailed round the corner to Komodo where we were greeted by boat boys who guided us to an anchorage out of the wind and current. They offered to take us ashore to the village and show us around but before that ''negotiated'' sales of dragon wood carvings and pearl necklaces.
The village has about 1,500 people with lots of children most of whom seemed to be playing football in amongst the goats and chickens. It was a very friendly and happy atmosphere and it is the only village on the island. From our anchorage we can see wild pig and deer on the beach but the elusive dragon has yet to be seen. We are going on a one hour guided walk in the National Park tomorrow so hopefully a dragon (oka as it is known here) might be spotted.
