Resting here in Escape River poised to pass through the Albany Channel, round Cape York, through the Endeavour Strait and into the Gulf of Carpentaria once the tide is right.
This is a very remote spot---nothing or no-one to be seen except vast areas of land being bauxite, used in process of making aluminium, and sea. There are salt water crocs here but yet to be spotted---we will close the hatches on the boat tonight!
The passage up inside the Great Barrier Reef has been good sailing but the navigation has been tricky and not made easier by the large ships that join in the reef dodging----we had close encounters with ten ships last night all of which were about 750 feet long. THe channels are narrow, less than a mile wide in places between the reefs, and they twist and turn. The AIS and the VHF were both very busy!
