We have been in the Marina since Wednesday and after some lengthy fault finding the generator has been fixed. The capacitor had to be replaced----- this is what we all thought it would be but usually a faulty capacitor would show no charge but this one did. The engineer suggested we try a new one as a last resort before taking the generator out of the boat again---it worked!
Meanwhile we were moved within the Marina to the super yacht dock---- we were on the inside of the pontoon! The big ones were on the outside and Christopher, a lovely yacht built by Pendennis shipyard, Falmouth and launched in April 2010 with a firework display off Flushing and a party in the Royal Cornwall Yacht Club, was opposite us. The owner arrived last night and this morning she sailed to cruise the Society Islands flying the RCYC defaced blue ensign with the Duchy feathers and a Falmouth boy as first mate----- a marvellous sight.
We are having to replace two batteries tomorrow morning after some boiling and gassing problems---- not to be recommended. We are however still in piece! At least we might now be able to have some cabin lights on at night.
The water in the Marina here is so clean that looking into the water is like looking into an acquarium with an amazing array of colourful fish and coral of many colours which has grown on the concrete pontoons below the water line----- somewhat different to the murky, smelly water of the European marinas. It looked so inviting that Mark even managed to fall off the back of the boat yesterday----- he literally walked the plank except the plank from the stern to the pontoon had become disconnected from the boat and therefore there was nothing to hold his weight. Fortunately there was no personal harm other than pride and a large splash especially in front of all the super yachts.
Ethereal, a super yacht of over 200 feet, just behind us has 12 crew---- skipper, first mate, second mate, bosun, 3 engineers, chef, 2 stewards and 2 housekeepers. One of their engineers would be quite helpful on Marita!
