Carol, Hugh and Mike left Maumere to sail the 200 miles to Labuan Bajo, hopefully as 3 day sails.  First, however we needed to get our anchor up.  Ordinarily this would not have been a problem but on this occasion we needed 6 rally boat dinghies to assist us!  The yacht “You You” had anchored right on top of where we thought our anchor was and the owners James and Cindy had gone on a two days trip ashore leaving the yacht unattended.  Plus our windlass was not working properly and kept tripping the electrical circuit.  Some of the guys in their dinghies pushed “You You” out of the way while others kept Tashi Delek from bumping in to Court Jester while Hugh and Mike hauled the anchor up.  At one point lifting both Tashi Delek and “You You’s” anchors and chains!

We left at 0900 with no wind and motored away on a flat glassy sea.  About 5 miles out of Maumere we came across a pod of 12 Pilot Whales drifting along slowly on the surface.  A wonderful sight and we went as close as we dared without disturbing them.

Once the wind filled in we were able to set some sail and spent the night at anchor in Nagar Ujong, right next to the Power Station!  The only lights in an otherwise totally dark landsdcape and deserted.
