We reached the entrance to the Corinth Canal around 2pm and checked in with the Canal Authority who quickly relieved us of 200 Euros.  This is the most expensive piece of water there is.

We had been buffeted and thrown around for the last 24 hours so the complete calm inside the canal was very welcome.  It feels very narrow with the walls cut through the sandstone towering over you.  The water is a fantastic turquoise and the whole experience was a delight.

We were very lucky to go through completely on our own with no other yachts or ships to disturb the peace.

There are road bridges at each end that are lowered into the water to let ships go over them.  A highlight for Carol was watching the traffic being stopped to let Tashi Delek through.  Such power.

Once into the Gulf of Corinth there are very few anchorages so we had to keep going until about 8pm to reach the first place we could stop, a very pretty island called Vrak.

After a peaceful night at anchor all was very calm the next morning as we motored on a flat sea through the Gulf.  We had the best dolphin sighting we have ever had mid morning.  They played in the bow wave and treated us to some impressive leaps and turns for about 20 minutes.

We were really pleased that we had a good sighting while Ben was with us.
