Mum took us to the Lake District for a week in July where we had a great time staying in a lovely refurbished slate cottage in Langdale.  Andrew and Julia, Emma and Sarah were there for the full week and Robert and Nancy came for the day from York with Teddy and Finn.  The weather was a bit ‘Lake District’ ie more drizzle than sunshine but we were out and about much of the time and when we weren’t we made the most of the facilities in the cottage and on the estate.  For Mum, Carol and Andrew it was a bit of a trip down memory lane to some of our old haunts from childhood including the road up to Watendlath and the views of Derwent Water.

We took a bit of a leap into the unknown and signed up for the Via Ferrata (Iron Way) at Honnister Slate Quarry.  We thought we’d bite the bullet and go for the ‘Extreme’ and it was a bit.  The sense of being ‘out there’ and hanging on was enhanced by the strong winds, rain and mist so we all had the full experience even though it was all done very safely and we were clipped on the whole time.   The wire Burma bridge was very long and very wobbly ………..

And the scramble nets at the end also very long and very wobbly……

We were all pretty pleased with ourselves by the end.
