We arrived off the entrance to the river at Ketapang in the morning in the company of Allure (NZ) and in thick smoke haze from the forest fires.  Visibility was very poor, down to about half a mile.  While we waited for the escort boat to come out and show us the way up the channel Jason from Allure and Hugh went off the buy some prawns from a local fishing boat nearby.  The previous night passage had been an epic with neither Hugh or I getting any sleep due the unlit fishing boats, a maze of fishing nets with very confusing flashing lights and a big fishing boat flashing a laser torch around itself and at us as we got close.  To top it all we had a very close encounter with the inter-island ferry that came up behind us and to within a few hundred metres before altering course to pass us!
