San Antonio, Ibiza

We decided to stay at anchor in San Antonio.  We had a lot to do between visitors and this was a perfectly OK place with a chandlers, supermarket and, joy of joys a self service ‘laundry’ in a hotel within walking distance of the dingy dock.  Laundry is in parenthesis because it was a cupboard with a washing machine and dryer in.  But what a washing machine: 7Kg capacity, front load, immaculate and did the job properly.  All for 3 Euro’s. Woo hoo.  This is the sort of thing that gets very exciting when you have paid anything up to 15 Euros for a feeble wash in the past.  So, everything but everything has been washed.  Sheets and clothes of course but cushion covers, seat covers, mattress covers and on and on.  The joy of everything being clean at the same time is difficult to convey and probably not terribly interesting so that’s it on the laundry.

San Antonio is a big anchorage with much coming and going but also quite a lot of staying.  We got the feeling that some boats had arrived years ago and never left.

This is a is a trimaran that looks as though it should be in a Harry Potter film.  There are five dinghy’s attached at different points in varying states of disrepair.

This chap keeps his surfboard handy.  He has a very long paddle before there’s any surf worth riding.

To our amazement we have met up with Brad on Evergreen here.  Last winter an immaculate green yacht berthed very close to us in Marmaris and we got to know Brad a little over standard yachtie conversations along the lines of ‘Can you recommend....’, ‘Where can I get a.....’, ‘Do you know anyone who could.....’.  To our surprise Evergreen was placed next to us on the hard when she was hauled out, a few days after us.  This is a surprise because the marina is enormous with over 2,000 boats out of the water and they don’t fill in one area at a time.  We learnt that Brad was heading back across the Atlantic this year and had similar plans to ours so we agreed to keep in touch.

We met up again when we returned in the spring and arranged to hook up once we reached the Canaries as our route down there was going to be different.  Then they turn up in Ibiza, same anchorage, same time.  There are so many yachts here that we could easily have missed each other even in the same place.  Brad is sailing with his brother in law Mike so we have caught up over dinner on Tashi Delek and dinner on Evergreen and we have benefitted once again from Brads experience and knowledge as well as his humour and his cooking.

And finally, another in our occasional series of ‘Boat Names To Delight and Entertain’.......
