Niue is a delight.

As we arrived we saw ‘Adventure’. A very pretty looking schooner but it is iron and old and therefore very rusty.  Undeterred, the new owner (Steve) has bought her to trade watermelons between Tonga where they grow and Samoa where they do not.  That would be some business plan to read.

Once the anchor was down Moana Roa came over to say that they had hired a car and we would like to join them to have a look at the island.  Bandit had left some notes on the highlights so we followed their advice but first a stop at the garage for Australian pies.  By the look of the garage and the thought of mass produced pies this was not encouraging but the children seemed pretty enthusiastic so they were clearly something to try.  Carol went for broke…

….it was absolutely fantastic.  Great pastry, jam packed with mussels and a tasty creamy sauce.

‘Sea Tracks’ are a feature of Niue.  Well prepared tracks from the road to the sea along the lines we enjoyed in New Zealand.  All fairly short walks, although some more demanding than others, but they lead to some surprising nooks and crannies in the uplifted coral that had formed the island….
