This passage is notorious for light winds or no wind whatsoever.  Every other day we get a grib file by email over the satellite phone which shows us the wind forecast so we have some idea of what is likely to happen and what route to take to make the best of it where we can.  We were extremely lucky and for by far the best part of the passage had light winds that kept us going at 5 – 7 knots.  Whenever there was not enough wind we ran the engine and used the power to  get the fridges colder and make some water as well as to keep the boat moving.

Best of all were the relatively gentle seas.

Morale being very important we finished each day with happy hour and enjoyed some excellent wines courtesy of Brad and JM.

We saw whales, dolphins and a shark.

We cooked.  Brads terrific brunch, pancakes and muesli with homemade yogurt rang the changes for breakfasts.  This day is was shepherd’s pie followed by steamed syrup sponge and custard.  English fare for our American guests.

Carol conducted a Key Lime Pie research project having found out that this is a particular favourite of Brads.  The first experiment was Delia Smiths version which was tasty enough but not quite the thing as expected by Brad and JM.

Second recipe required no cooking but the mix refused to set.  Ladelled with a big spoon though it tasted great!

Or we just look at the horizon.
