We left Gili Lawang at 0830 for the 112 mile passage overnight to Lovina Beach on Bali.  We ended up motor-sailing as the wind never rose above 12 knots ENE then ESE and was thus mainly directly behind us (astern).  Although we could have sailed off the direct course to use the wind we would have only been travelling at around 3 knots and a NE swell would have had us rolling dramatically, so we decided the cut our loses, motor just off the wind and keep up a steady 4.5 to 5 knots of speed.  The night was calm and lit by a fabulous full moon.

As we sailed 15 miles off shore we passed the anchorage at Medana on Lombok and heard via the VHF radio net other rally fleet yachts play out the drama of the yacht Velela dragging her anchor and running aground on the rocky beach.  Her owners were not on board but away for the day on Gili Air.  We later heard that they had returned, the yacht was recovered off the beach intact, was sound and had not let in any water and was being sailed to the marina south of Bali to be lifted out and inspected.  Wow,  well done the guys who fought to secured her from any more damage on the beach.

We arrived at Lovina Beach at 0900 in the morning and anchored amongst the fleet.  It was good to be back with Chris and Sara on Tulu, Peter and Lynne on Sunchaser, Phil and Lesley on Paseafique, Jeremy and Kay on Court Jester, Hilbrand and Marjike on Carrie and Mike and Rosie on Shakti. And so many others too numerous to mention here.
