We had a slightly delayed departure from Bora Bora due to the mainsail
getting stuck on its way up the mast. We had made some adjustments to the
way we had it rigged in order to help the lines to run more smoothly however
they simply jammed altogether. We put it up in the shelter of the lagoon
which meant we were able to motor back onto our mooring buoy to sort things
out. There are always unforeseen consequences of any changes we make and
when those changes involve the general cat's cradle of lines involved with a
mainsail, the dark and mysterious channels through the boom, numerous little
wheels and rope clutches then this isn't too surprising.

Once we had made a couple of adjustments the mainsail was back in action and
we left the lagoon heading for Tonga. We won't know for a few days yet
whether the conditions will be right for a stopover at Palmerston Atoll.

Our first 24 hours have been in very light winds of 5 - 8 knots so we have
needed some engine to make progress but that meant we were able to run the
Watermaker, top up the batteries and recharge the laptop. There are clouds
looming now which means the wind has picked up so we are sailing at last,
using the cruising chute which looks great and making decent progress. As
the front moves in the wind will become too strong for the chute so we will
pull that down and unroll the headsail instead.

Little wind means a calm sea so we are rolling along on the swell which is
lovely.

Beef curry for dinner last night and pork with cream and mushrooms tonight.
These are the things that punctuate the day. All is well.
