We had a wonderful days sailing with full mainsail and the asymetric cruising chute, otherwise known as “the Kite”.  Photos taken from Tulu were very kindly emailed to Carol by Chris and Sara the same day.

The settlement of Cooktown is situated on the Endeavour River where Captain James Cook spent several months repairing his ship Endeavour after hitting a reef, now surprisingly called Endeavour reef.  The river is very shallow and there are limited anchorages for yachts unless you have local knowledge where the deep bits are,  We arrived late in the day and could not find a suitable place to anchor and so rafted up alongside a German 48 foot Halberg Rassey yacht Circe which was moored on a newly built quay.  We had seen Circe in the Caribbean and she had been in the boat yard with us in Bundaberg.  The skipper, Karl was very friendly and assisted us come alongside.  The next morning we moved forward alongside an American yacht Evergreen as Circe intended to depart.  Jon and Heather on Evergreen are on the Rally with us, so it was good to get to know them and invite them to have drinks on board Tashi Delek in the evening.

We stayed an extra day in Cooktown.  While Mike did jobs on the yacht, Meryon, Tim and Pim went sightseeing and visited the Museum with Chris and Sara from Tulu.
