Panama City to the Las Perlas Islands

An excellent sail south east from Panama City to Las Perlas. We anchored on the south eastern side of Isla Chapera.  A beautiful evening surrounded by hundreds of frigate birds preying on the thousands of pelicans which were diving into the sea to feed on the large shoals of fish around the island.

The next day, Saturday saw us anchored further south near Isla Ampon.   We went ashore to explore one of the idyllic sandy beaches and were slightly unnerved to see two fins gently circling in the shallow water ten metres or so from the shore.  According to the shark recognition book we think they were either nurse sharks which are entirely harmless or lemon sharks which can be aggressive and attack people!  There was a pair of them, 5 – 6 ft long and we watched them for quite some time feeling very privileged to be so close.
