Lesley and Philip very kindly drove us to Washington where we had a couple of nights together staying with Adam, Jessica and baby Hannah in their lovely new house.  A particular treat was to go downtown for the Memorial Day veterans ride on Saturday.  30,000
Veterans of the Armed Forces ride their Harley Davidsons round the Mall and it is quite a sight and sound.  It had started as a protest ride by Vietnam Vets drawing attention to their poor treatment by the government and has grown to a significant annual event embraced by the Nation and the Services as a Memorial Day for veterans of all wars.  Note the serving marine on the right of the photograph who stood to attention, along with many others, saluting the riders as they passed.

Bikers everywhere and a great deal of black leather on a very hot day.

Hot enough for some enterprising youngsters to be selling homemade lemonade outside their condominium…………

Washington is fabulous and Adam and Jessica live in a delightful, leafy green area within walking distance of the centre.  It is a real treat to stay with them and their lovely daughter who smiled and chuckled the entire time.  Knowing us as well as they do they made sure to take us to their local box store to enjoy the infinite selection of storage systems large and small and, yes, we succumbed to a couple of boxes that will mean we can be even tidier on the boat.
