Carol finally made the effort to work out how to use the sea temperature reader that is part of our electronics whizz bang kit.  Having realised that we could use the cooking thermometer to test the sea she found that the gauge on the boat didn’t need calibrating and had been accurate all along and therefore, yes, the sea really was that cold in June in the Med.

To celebrate the summer solstice and because it was high time we got a grip of ourselves we swam yesterday for the first time and it was horrible, horrible, horrible getting in but after about five minutes the goose bumps calmed down a bit and it was bearable.  Cooler than we’d like but great to be swimming and we should have done it a month ago of course.

21 June was also a big day for Carol who had her telephone interview to be an Olympic Gamesmaker, ie volunteer.  Mike had a face to face interview while we were at home for a role within the Press Operations team and Carols was for the emergency medical centre.  We could specify three roles on our application forms, in order of priority, and we have both been interviewed for things we didn’t mention.  Carol has made it very, very clear that she is a nurse manager and it would not be a good idea to expect too much of her anywhere near a patient who is in need of urgent attention.

Carol was aghast that Mike had an interview very early on but heard nothing herself so morale was restored.  We still may not be suitable (!) but at least we won’t have fallen at the first hurdle to use a sporting metaphor.
