Short supplies !

This blog is dedicated to explaining our endless hunt for
supplies. Rangiroa The little village shop had fresh bread in the mornings –
hurray ! We also found some in date ham in the fridge, however no
sign of any vegetables or fruit and we were lucky to purchase the last two
remaining tomatoes. Tikehau We found a delightful tiny kitten in the village shop that
the owner tried to give to us to take away to the boat (not to eat), very
tempting ! However the only fresh produce were onions and potatoes. No
sign of any salad – but the supply ship was due in that night which
sounded promising. The bread had to be ordered and collected from the bakers at
5pm the following day. We returned the next day at 9.00am (another soaking in the
dinghy) hoping for some new stock only to be told that they had already sold
out of tomatoes and lettuce, but we did manage to secure a white cabbage and a
cucumber and two carrots – yippee ! We then walked half a mile in the hot sun to the next shop
and managed to buy the last two tomatoes and some cartons of wine. The wine was Spanish table wine, very dusty and dubious
looking and cost us £10 for a litre – but needs must.
Our tummies are growing fast from filling up on the delicious bread so we were very excited about our fresh purchases and it was off to prepare a healthy salad for lunch. Well didn’t we do well ! With the help of a few tins that have become essential supplies (sweetcorn & beetroot) I am always amazed how we manage to eat so well with such limited supplies ! Sainsbury’s, Tesco, Waitrose and Asda seem like a distant dream. |
