Moroccon Souks
We set off in the afternoon to an ancient Moroccan town with
our guide and several plain clothes police to help keep the group together and
give us some protection! We discovered every kind of souk…. from fresh produce…. to shoes, powder paint colourings and skins straight from
the tannery – very smelly.
The markets or souks were in a maze of narrow streets
selling everything imaginable and interspersed with tiny, one chair barbers and
sewing shops. We also took in displays of carpets and herbal remedies,
very interesting and quite a hard sell ! We escaped without buying a carpet and finished the tour
with a great Moroccan meal of samosas, kebabs, chicken and couscous(
Mark’s favourite, not) whilst being entertained by the local talent. |
