Moorea
Position 17:30.028S 149:49.110W We arrived in Moorea yesterday afternoon. I was all prepared for a nice gentle sail, reading my book
and dozing for a few hours – but it was not meant to be. The seas were very rolly and we had a squall of high winds
followed by heavy rain, I spent the trip frantically putting things away, closing
hatches and mopping up water from a freak wave that dumped itself on
us from a great height ! We soon recovered when we approached Moorea – what a
beautiful island with stunning views surrounding the quiet anchorage. We took the dinghy ashore to one of the bungalows in the
photos above, where Richard and Boot (rally control) are staying and shared
some beers with a few other ralliers before taking the complimentary
minibus to the local restaurant. A local band played in the restaurant and Mark and Jamie
provided the entertainment, dancing with the local girls who were jostling between
each other for a turn to dance with them. Internet access is a bonus here and we skyped the children
this morning before the rest of the rally boats arrived for welcome drinks and lunch
together at the hotel next to the anchorage, called ‘Club Bali Hai’ This afternoon we have been swimming and snorkelling and
cleaning the waterline of the boat (again!). Tomorrow Mark is going for a dive whilst I am going to make
a traditional flower headdress (under supervision) at the hotel. Tuesday should prove to be exciting as we have hired a
scooter to explore the island, mind you with a 50cc engine and two of us on it
we may struggle to get very far (hope it has peddles too) |
