We had a good night in Villagarcia and caught up with some
skypeing in the marina café. Next morning we provisioned and had a coffee in town then we
left for an anchorage off Isla de Arosa, a very busy little fishing harbour. For lunch we had bought fresh anchovies ( boqerones) and
after consulting Rick Stein we prepared them by pinching off their heads, which
pulls the guts out as well, and removing the backbones. They were delicious coated in flour and fried. In the afternoon we took the dinghy ashore and tied up
amongst hundreds of fishing boats, then we walked the cliff path which was
spectalular and gave us some good photos of ‘Blue Magic’ in the
bay.
You can see the small harbour is alive with of all kinds of
fishing boats, we are anchored at the back of the fleet, behind us you can see
the Viveros (floating mussel rafts) that are all over the Ria. The wind and rain were quite heavy all night, but the anchor
was well dug in – thank goodness! The forecast is for the same today and tonight, we are
getting the edge of the Biscay storms, and we are going to stay here until it
is more settled. So… I have decided to bake a cake ! The Spanish cakes are not very good – mainly Madeira cake
so the plan for today is to bake a nice big fruit cake. Thank you Kevin for your bread pudding recipe – that is
next on the baking agenda ! |
