Dear Family and Friends,

24th July 2015

As I write this date I am thinking of this day last year when we set off on our sailing odessy. A whole year at sea! This of course is small beer beside the many cruisers we have met who have sailed into the sunset for many years. But for me it has been a momentous and amazing year. To travel has been a long held ambition, we have worked hard to be able to fulfil it. Our last weeks before setting off were full beyond measure, I can picture myself standing in our London house, the last few bags scattered on the floor, an inevitable deadline to get going hanging over us, with a table that wouldn’t go through the door because we had changed the door frame and nowhere to store it either! We just left it. It felt both liberating and odd to have freed oneself of houses, jobs, cars. I have settled into the cruising way of life, on board has its ups and downs, you might think it confining but with all the wide open spaces around us, often stunning views, many interesting people to meet and experiences to have, I haven’t tired of it!

I do miss my son and daughter, family and friends, and many things about England. I am frustrated by our struggle to stay in touch. If I were setting off again I would consider the large investment in on board wifi. It is not so much of a problem in Europe, but here in the Pacific, a real pain.

We haven’t seen much of Bora Bora yet, paperwork for affairs in the UK and arrangements for our onward travel to Samoa, Tonga and Fiji are taking up quite a bit of time. Fiji in particular is as difficult a place to visit, in terms of officialdom as Galapagos! But more on that later.

I am putting the bubbly on ice and we will raise a glass at sunset and watch the surf break over the reef…..

All our best,

Lynne and Alan
