Dear Family and Friends,

With a morning free, I thought I would update our photo blog, enjoy.

Povoa do Varzim, baroque style church

PDV Mother church interior

Mother church PDV

PDV town hall, hand painted tiles are common on municipal and private housing, increasingly old tiles are being collected as their production has declined.

Many of their heroes are seafarers, here our man is dressed in typical fisherman’s clothes.

Vila de Conde, quayside church built on a rocky outcrop, replica galleon in background

VDConde bobbin lace making museum, these skills were brought to this region through trade with the Flemish.

Old photo showing a lace maker, girls learned these skills in school, from as young as 5 years of age.

Sorry forgot to rotate this one! exquisite lace christening dress, bonnet and bootees.

Old streets VDConde

Amazing 18th C aqueduct VDConde

18th C convent, closely resembling formidable fortress! Windows all had iron bars.

Tried to capture Atlantic breakers on the mole, gives you a flavour of a modest swell. On a surfing beach south of here, a 100’ wave was recorded!

The many fishing boats around the coast are often mobbed by seagulls as they prepare their catch for market.

More from Porto soon.

All our best wishes to you, Lynne and Alan
