This evening, you find the crew of “Knotty Girl” much happier than they have been for a few days, tucked up as we are in the lee of the island of S’Espalmador, just south of Ibiza. This is a tranquil anchorage in front of a private sandy beach, with only a few other yachts for company. It is clear that the normal Balearic summer is not yet in full swing here, for which we are grateful.

With our 1,600 mile passage almost at an end, “Knotty Girl” is slowly turning from a torpedo back in to a cruising yacht once more. The dinghy and outboard have been recommissioned, everyone has been for a swim, and there is talk of an aperitif in about an hour or so. It is blissful, and we are all looking forward to a nights sleep in a bunk that is not determined to eject us out on to the cabin floor every 30 seconds.

Ahead of us lie a couple of days exploring the island of Ibiza – the so called White Island. The rules for visiting yachts have been relaxed slightly in Spain, allowing us some freedom to appreciate everything that the place has to offer. We can't wait. After our batteries have been fully recharged, our intention is to sail north up to Barcelona – a distance of around 160 miles – on Monday.
