It is amazing to see how your min and jobs change with the environment, a
year ago in Newport (where rain is rare) you would not work on leaks and
port covers as it was basically not an issue.
Down here it rains every day for an hour which we like, but you now adapt
for it so the jobs over the last month have been around fixing this aspect
of the boat, we have been working through minor deck leaks, still doing
this. But today I installed some new port covers, these were recommended by
a sister ship who has been using them for a year in the Marshall Islands in
the rainy season. We have been looking at ideas, and have not seen things,
plenty of attempts but none that really work. As you can see from the
photos, you have the port without the cover, and then now with the cover.
It appears to provide good coverage, and shade, allowing us to keep the
ports open during the storms, so we still get ventilation as we have place
fans on the inside close to ports to bring in fresh air as well. You do not
want to know how many times we have been at the pool or off the boat when a
quick shower comes through, and we fail to get back and things get wet. Now
this solution should solve this problem.
We got these from ebuymarine.com
They seem to work through the first thunder storm, nothing is wet no splash
of the decks as well, and the added benefit of taking the sun clear out of
the boat.
Cleaning boat, and preparing to leave for 10 days to guatalmala, so we are
having to pack stuff away, and get ready to close up, but not as big effort
as the 3 months.
