We flew to Lima today, getting out of the grey of Lima and rose above the
clouds on a plane full of english speaking people,(strange after all the
travel, this is the real first tourist place we have got to). But I expect
here and Galapogos Islands will be tourists more than we have seen in
months, but the places a nice.
It was nice to arrive in Cusco to sun and warmth, even though it is at
altitude (which we are staying put for 3 to 4 days to adjust before heading
up the valley), but in one afternoon we have walked some of the cobbled
streets and the very spanish colonial architecture, and there is a lot to do
here, including just absorb the atmosphere. The hotel (3 star) we staying in
was recommended by my Mum when she was here a couple of years ago, and sure
enough it is the old spanish colnial type building with courtyards and large
rooms, very pleasant and gets you into the atmosphere.
On arrival we met a French/ English couple with 3 kids who have also taken a
8 months out and they are travelling around the world, they have been in
South America for 2 months and then will go to Australia and Africa, but it
was good for the kids to play, and catch up, we swapped stories oin here,
and us on Easter Island as they are going there. We have not run into many
families on extended trips so it was good to compare ideas etc, all the
families we have seen were crusiing, they are of to La Paz by bus on an over
night bus.
I am looking forward to sleep, alitude is getting to me!!!
