A week ago we were in shorts and in the 30's C 90 F and now we are in 10s C
60s F and it is raining. As we came into town I saw some of the biggest
cloud formations I have seen rising off to the east over the Andes these
huge cloud formations showed the pass front rosining over the mountain
range, totally engulfing the range. It was sunny as we entered the town, but
plenty of water on the ground from the days rain.
This is a major port in a gulf protected by the Island Chiloe (which we
visit in 3 weeks when we come back up), but I had expected an Alaska like
town, and really I missed the location. As we entered the buildings were
timber or cement, straddling the side of the bay going u the hill, the water
is very calm, like a lake, but grey and cold. As we walked around my
thoughts went back to the ports/ and coastal towns of Norway which I visited
back in 80s. Especially with the wet streets, and sun light peeking through
these huge clouds.
The town has a very Nordic, European feel, we even ate dinner at German
restaurant pub, totally in timber.
The scenery is spectacular with the sea, and then the island in the
distance, and behind us the mountains rise, and keep rising into the clouds,
the trees are just staring to turn here to the golden autumn colors. From
our initial walk around you quickly got the feel that this is a Navy town,
and fishing town, many pubs but tomorrow we will explore further a field, in
the distance up the port we can see our ferry south it's bright red hull.

Stay tuned.
