I took Sean to group kids (el Nino) violin class, hosted by his teacher our
intent was to allow Sean to see other kids playing and they encourage him,
even though the lesson is in Spanish, (with bits of English) he did really
well and enjoyed it. The other kids which are all older than him, encouraged
and showed him, and they did group activities. Outside I chatted with some
of parents, and like last night and our whole experience in El Salvador the
people are just so nice.
They go out of their way to help, and take an interest, and always make us
welcome. Today as we did a trip through the fields, volcanoes, coffee
plantations out to village for a food festival this again became apparent.
Compared with so many countries we have been in this year, El Salvador is
sort untouched by the tourism bug, so you are left alone, or if there is an
engagement it is out of interest, and helping. It is funny that both Tracy
and I noticed the same thing, and commented at the same time.
After the lesson we collected things and took the van our through Santa Ana
(the second biggest city) where we say some good European architecture
brought in by the rich coffee families, and then out through the volcanoes
to the food festival. This was a small village which hosts a food festival
each weekend, and has 100s of food stalls cooking good food along the
streets. It was nice to walk about and look and smell, I had polish sausage
and great butterfly prawns, with corn pancakes. The drive there and back was
worth the trip as the country side was spectacular and on a clear day it is
really worth seeing with the volcanoes in their green vegetation rising
1000s of metres above you, the coffee plantations clinging to their sides
(due to cool moist climate) and then the sugar can in the plains below, and
maze fields.
Now I am sitting back on the boat, the lightening is flashing high above us
(cloud to cloud) and we had a good shower which was nice as we have not had
one for 4 days and water was getting low and the refreshing of the
atmosphere is nice, but I found two more deck leaks that will give me work
tomorrow. (would not be a boat)
