In our final two days at Cusco we have spent at different parks, and going
to the markets and just mixing in with the locals and lifestyle. Each
afternoon the boys want to feed pigeons on the main square, so they get seed
and next thing you lots carpet of pigeons running about. In the process as
the only blond kids about they become the centre of attention from tourists
and locals.
We have used the two days to step up the home schooling with me getting on
Maths with Sean, and he is coming along in strides, and both of us are
enjoying it, the counting and addition and subtraction, he is getting the
concept of quantity and we then apply it when we go out on the street. We
took the boys to the nature museum again this is a huge attraction for them
as the birds in this one were great, and they have been identifying them
with Tracy (whos knows them) but to see them up close it makes a difference.
We are finding the combination of seeing the animals live in the wild or
zoos, and then at the nature museums is a good combination and both love it,
with the insects, and snakes of the Amazon which added good local character.
My afternoon was spent at the Irish pub watching the Holland, vs Uruguay
soccer match, there was no room, and a sea of orange and lots of noise when
they won. I have met a number of occasions the same people there so we talk
and discuss travel and places it has been nice. It has been one of the
things of Cusco for me is I have enjoyed the other travelers, reminding me
of my young days on the road, and the days at the Ritz in Jo Burg, certainly
backpacking and travelling has been a significant and one of the most
rewarding times of my life. Been able to sit and talk with travelers of all
ages, all countries bounce ideas, provide advise (I am now an old man of the
road), and enjoy the moment has been fun.
Tomorrow back to Lima before we go on for the next 3 days to get to
Galapagos Islands.
We have enjoyed our 2 weeks in the high country of Peru, and a new respect
for the Incas.
