We woke to the sun appearing over the mountains and lake, and a lot of
activity on the street below. Alex pointed to fire engines coming around the
corner below, and there was then we looked left down the main street and it
was full. Everyone was coming into the main street, we went down for
breakfast (yes we are sleeping late here) and asked what is happening and we
knew it was a holiday, we had not realized it was the 200 years anniversary
for Argentina.
They picked the day with the sun out, still cool but a lot better than the
last couple of days. We went down and watched the parade down the main
street, Alex and Sean enjoyed all the cars, and boats etc. We enjoyed
watching the different ages all down, dressed in local costumes from just
walking to those well into their eighties. Again we saw generations of a
family celebrating together. After all the essential services then you had
the different clubs and associations joining the parade. Combining with this
is the fact that the world cup soccer starts in 2 weeks, and the Argentina
had their final warm up match and send off last night when they beat Canada
5-0 so everyone is out in blue and white and flags everywhere. In a country
where soccer is everything it is nice to be here, the boys appreciate the
atmosphere, and then wanted to go a kick a ball around the park. The whole
day spent in what was blue and white and celebrations, it is nice to see a
nation come together.
